Let’s talk about the glucose test. There are a lot of rumors going around about this test but it really isn’t as bad as people make it out to be. There are much more painful experiences in life you will have to go through, like childbirth for instance.
Typically, you will have your glucose test between 24-28 weeks of pregnancy and sometimes you will also have to do an early one as well if you have risk factors for gestational diabetes.
Here are some insider tips:
- Pick a flavor that sounds good. I personally recommend the fruit punch.
- Drink it cold if you can.
- Follow the directions your healthy provider gives you. If they want you to fast do not eat a donut before your test. If they tell you to eat, follow their directions closely!
- Guess what? You can drink water the entire time! Water makes everything better.
- Have a high protein snack ready to go for right after the test. This is so you don’t have a sugar crash afterwards.
Whether you have to do a 1-hour or a 3-hour test (or both) commit to getting it done. The glucose test is no one's idea of fun but it's worth a little discomfort to ensure you've done everything in your power to keep you and your baby healthy.
