I would like to talk about the end of pregnancy. Week 38-40 (41 weeks if you are really lucky).
If you haven’t gotten there quite yet let’s talk about what to expect…
- Every time you look down you can’t quite see your feet anymore.
- Things that get dropped on the floor stay on the floor. If you attempt to pick them up you may not get back up again.
- Everywhere you go people comment on how pregnant you are. Hopefully they won’t stick their hands out and rub your belly too or ask if there are two in there.
- These people also ask personal questions about your cervix.
- Strong little feet kick you in your ribs all day and night.
- There is a giant bowling ball I mean head sitting in your pelvis, right on your bladder.
- You must sleep every night with 55 pillows arranged just right.
- If your pregnancy app is comparing your baby to fruit, this is the point where they compare your baby to state fair size watermelons or pumpkins.
- This is the time frame where you start heavily researching how to go into labor. You are willing at this point to do anything to get your baby out. I mean anything.
I could keep going but we will leave the rest as a surprise! During the end of pregnancy I would wake up every morning and give myself a pep talk to get through the day. It sounded like this:
- You can do this.
- You are growing a stronger, healthier, smarter baby.
- Those lungs are maturing.
- That brain is developing.
- You are maturing a tiny human.
- You got this one more day.
I can say I don’t really miss all the uncomfortable parts of the end of pregnancy but I do miss those little kicks every now and then. It is an absolute privilege to carry your baby to term. I wish every Mom could.
Hang in there!
Yours truly,
Stork Mama
