So, you are having a boy?
We need to talk about diaper changes. Changing a boy diaper isn’t too hard, if you know what you are doing. I did not know what I was doing when I changed that first diaper.
I ended up getting peed on. It hit my face, my eyes, and um inside my mouth. I shouldn’t have screamed, it might not have been so bad. Also, my reflexes were really slow because I was tired.
Here are some tips to help you out…
- Get everything ready ahead of time. Gather all your supplies and have them ready for the diaper change.
- Cold air startles the baby once you remove the diaper and can make him pee all over you. Undo the dirty diaper and open it then put it right back and wait a moment. You can also use a small towel or cup to cover.
- It is important to do this diaper change as fast as you can! You will get faster and faster with practice. I wish I had known this ahead of time. I would have run through some speed trials and timed myself during pregnancy.
- Have your diaper cream and/or petroleum jelly in a squeeze tube. This makes it much easier to apply quickly and is less messy.
- You must point the baby’s penis down before closing diaper. This is very important. If it is pointing up, he will pee all over himself and none of it will get in the diaper.
- Keep your mouth closed, no matter what happens, do not scream.
I can change a wet diaper in under twelve seconds. This is similar to some of the best NASCAR crew’s pit stop times. How fast can you change a diaper?
